Energy calculations, for example SAPs and SBEM, need to take into account the heat losses through plane elements such as walls, floors and roofs. To determine these heat losses, we produce ‘U-values’.  

‘U values’ determine the transmission of heat between internal and external environments. These can be calculated by following the necessary standards producing basic calculations, using numerical analysis or measuring via a ‘hot box’ method.  

Both U Values, and PSI values, are key areas of energy assessments for ascertaining heat losses from a building.
