Why work for AES Sustainability Consultants?

AES Sustainability Consultants may be a small company based in Devon, but our work and influence reach much further afield.  Working for AES Sustainability Consultants, you will have the opportunity to work with some of the leading national developers on major, industry-leading projects and contribute to the incremental improvement, in line with tightening regulations, of a large volume of new housing and commercial developments.

Award Winning

AES Sustainability Consultants works with a broad range of clients, from one-off self-builders right up to a number of the top ten national housebuilders and developers.  Over the years, we have developed strong working relationships with award-winning clients and were Preferred Supplier to Linden Homes (Sustainable Developer of the Year – What House? Awards 2014) and chaired the Group Consultant Panel for Crest Nicholson (Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year – Housebuilder Awards 2014 & 2016).

In 2016, AES Sustainability Consultants were shortlisted for the Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year (fewer than 100 staff) at the prestigious Building Awards. We were awarded Consultant of the Year 2013 for outstanding all-round performance by Crest Nicholson South West, Technical Consultant of the Year 2015 by Crest Nicholson South, as well as being awarded runner up in previous years by other Crest Nicholson regions.

Our BREEAM consultants were part of the team that delivered the National College for High Speed Rail, winner of BREEAM Public Sector Project – Post Construction Award in 2019.

Industry Leading Projects

We have worked on several award-winning projects for our clients, such as Graylingwell (Linden Homes) and Bath Western Riverside (Crest Nicholson).  In addition to this, we have been actively involved in many projects to improve standards within the industry, such as the Zero Carbon Hub project, Closing the Gap between Design and As-Built Performance.  We have also worked on the AIMC4 project and sit on many industry committees such as the Future Homes Group, Tall Buildings Group, the SAP Industry Forum (IF / SAP 11) and co-chair the Building Alliance (BA) Indoor Air Quality and Overheating (IAQ) workgroup in partnership with the University of Birmingham.

Training and Development

You will be assigned a mentor to help you settle in and get to know our processes and procedures from day one.  During your probationary period, you will have monthly reviews to monitor your progress and ensure that any issues are identified and resolved quickly.  Once you have passed your probation, you will have ongoing quarterly reviews and feedback.

We have well-established in-house training programmes providing in-depth technical training and the opportunity to put this into practice on real projects from the start.  To complement this, we work with you to identify any external training you need to gain accreditation and/or expand your technical expertise.  We also organise regular CPD sessions to ensure everyone is up to date with the latest technology and legislative changes.

Above all, we believe that people perform best when they are in a role that matches their strengths and that they enjoy.  We, therefore, work closely with you to identify the areas that interest you and try to match development opportunities to your strengths.

Current Opportunities

What is it like to work for AES Sustainability Consultants?

AES Sustainability Consultants is a well-established company that has built up an enviable reputation within the industry.  We have a strong financial base and have continued to grow steadily through recessions and Covid restrictions.

One of the benefits of working with a small company such as AES Sustainability Consultants is that you are a big fish in a small pond rather than the other way around.  Our employees are individuals, and we treat each other as such.  You can speak to the Directors whenever you want, and being privately owned, we can make decisions quickly without having to fight our way through the endless bureaucracy.

We are a young and dynamic team with a strong team spirit.  We don’t believe in individual targets – it’s a team effort.  This is demonstrated not only in the way we deliver projects but also in our social activities. Where permitted, we organise staff events throughout the year to get together and enjoy some social time together rather than it all being about work.

Location

Well, what can we say about living and working in Devon?  The fact that the M5 resembles a giant car park on summer weekends should tell you something…  If you like outdoor pursuits such as surfing and walking, you probably already know how great it is to have the national parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor on your doorstep, not to mention the stunning north and south coastline.  Our regional capital city, Exeter, is just down the road offering all the benefits of a fast-growing and dynamic city, and Bristol or London are within easy reach.

That said, there is no obligation to live within commuting distance of the office as most of our roles are now delivered remotely.  Covid has accelerated our shift to remote working, but we are now fully committed to facilitating this in the long term.  We now have consultants based across England, Scotland and Wales and have maintained our strong team ethos despite being geographically dispersed.  We have systems in place to deliver virtual in-house training and mentoring.  We work hard to ensure that you feel part of the team and can actively contribute to team projects wherever you are.  We don’t expect you to visit the office for work but encourage everyone to come together regularly for social activities.

Reward

We recognise that in order to attract and retain great consultants we need to offer a competitive salary.  Everyone’s salary is reviewed annually to ensure that it aligns with what’s being offered in the industry.  We also operate a Company pension scheme with employer contributions available in addition to salary.

Every year we review our reward package to see if there are ways that we can enhance it and ensure that it remains attractive.  In 2014 we introduced a bonus scheme to ensure that everyone shares in the Business’s success.

We also try to ensure that everyone can enjoy a good work-life balance.  In addition to the basic leave allowance, additional days leave are awarded in line with length of service.

We work hard to ensure that we have a happy team who enjoy their work and are rewarded for their efforts.  We are always on the lookout for the best talent so if you’d like to find out about the latest opportunities or find out more about us, please get in touch with our Recruitment Specialist, Melanie Rolfe on 01884 242 050 or send your CV to recruitment@aessc.co.uk
