Bush Tucker Challenge – Locusts

Thank you for your continued support to the AES Hope Challenge Team, we have now reached £2,264! As promised, here is the long awaited recording of Jon and Alex eating Locusts…

Unfortunately for Jon and Alex, about 10 minutes AFTER they had recorded this bush tucker challenge, Habitat for Humanity informed us of the decision to postpone Hope Challenge until 2019.

It is with great sadness that we share this news. Everyone at AES Sustainability Consultants, especially the Hope Challenge 2018 team (Claire, Jilly, Jonathan, Laura, Ross and Rowenna) want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you for sponsoring them. We are all so very grateful of the kind donations and very pleased that we have raised £2,264 in total for the amazing charity, Habitat for Humanity.

Please be assured that all of the money donated will still have a huge impact and will still go towards Hope Challenge, but now this amount will be carried over to the 2019 event, of which AES Sustainability Consultants will be taking part in. This just gives us a little longer to come up with our amazing shelter idea.

Here at AES we regard recycling not as a priority, but an obligation.

Maggie (Graduate Sustainability Consultant), is voluntarily challenging employee’s habits and attitudes towards recycling. With the aim to achieve the goal of reducing our company waste by half, over the upcoming year. Feeding off her degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management, her efforts include:

  • Monthly waste audits
  • Raising awareness of what is recyclable or not
  • Pestering the lazy ones for not washing up empty milk bottles
  • Praising the considerate ones for separating the film from plastic bottles
  • Promoting the use of a sustainable web-based search engines like Ecosia
  • Promoting the benefits of car sharing

“Discussing the topic with colleagues on a more personal level, has helped understanding. We have overcome obstacles such as inconvenience or lack of knowledge.” Margarita Shivarova

Maggie wants to provoke thought about the impacts of our actions to the environment and to pioneer the tools already at hand for reducing it.

It is no wonder that this dedication to recycling meant Maggie received Small Business Champion Runner Up at the recent Recycle Devon Awards in Exeter.

Hope Challenge 2018

AES are taking part in Hope Challenge 2018. We are raising vital funds that will help Habitat for Humanity build a safe environment where families and communities can thrive.

We are excited about putting our varied skills together, working as a team to design an innovative, sustainable shelter out of our own materials to house us for 2-nights whilst we take part in mental and physical challenges in the stunning Peak District.

Over the next few months we will be raising money through events, auctions, sales and sponsorship:

  • Jilly will be taking part in the Bideford Half on 11th March. It’s Jilly’s first ever Half Marathon and the training is going well – although she has vowed “never again” already!!
  • In April we will be holding an all-weather trip to the stars with the Space Odyssey Planetarium. Time and date to be confirmed.
  • The Bush Tucker Challenge….Oh yes! Details to follow…

Neil Parish visits AES

Twitter Image

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, visited AES Sustainability Consultants on Monday 5th February to better understand the SAP process and to hear Jon Bodington’s advice regarding industry wide improvements that are needed to drive developments to be sustainable, of a high-quality build and ensure what is designed is delivered by the Developers.

“It was good to see a quality, vibrant, enthusiastic consultancy with National coverage based in Tiverton”.

We hope to further our discussions with Neil over the coming months to ensure a future of sustainable developments, locally and nationally.

Crest Nicholson’s Centenary Quay

We recently worked on Centenary Quay – Crest Nicholson’s new waterside development of new homes in Southampton. A destination for living, working and enjoying life in a historic port city, this collection of new homes provides a stunning setting on the banks of the River Itchen.

This is what the Senior Technical Manager had to say:

“AES Sustainability Consultants have again raised the bar and provided yet another very professional and extremely prompt service under extreme pressure. This allowed us to substantially increase our year end anticipated targets.

We called for urgent service when it became clear that we could substantially increase our year end targets but needed 55 unexpected EPC’s “Now!”. AES took the matter of delivering the EPC’s by the scruff of the neck, managed the DALTEC air tests and within 24 hours post testing, AES lodged EPC certificates for 55 flats, representing half the building in question. From call for assistance to delivery of EPC’s – 4 working days inclusive. By any measure, an extraordinary service.

Without this impressive service our achievement would simply not have been possible.”

Charlotte joins AES as our Executive Assistant

CLW 2017We thought it was about time we introduced you to our Executive Assistant. Charlotte joined in October, where has the time gone!

Charlotte not only provides administrative support to the Managing Director, Operations Director, Company Director and Finance Manager but she is also responsible for the office management duties, we are very lucky that Charlotte is super organised.

Charlotte brings with her a wealth of diverse professional experience; previously a climbing instructor, restaurant proprietor, events coordinator and personal assistant she has all areas covered and has the Senior Leadership Team running like a well-oiled machine.

An Executive Assistant is a new role for us at AES Sustainability Consultants but we have quickly noticed that Charlotte is an integral part of our support system as we continue to grow as a company.

Toni joins AES as a temporary Finance Manager

Toni and her husband recently followed their heart and swapped the Big Smoke for the rolling hills of the Devon countryside and we are very pleased she did. Toni has joined AES Sustainability Consultants to cover the maternity leave of our Finance Manager, Sarah, who recently had a baby boy.

Toni is an experienced Finance Manager/Controller with a history of working in the marketing and advertising industry in London.
